Earn Money Online, How to Choose The Best Sponsors To Support

Everyone wants to know if you can really earn money online, how to find sponsors to work with and become an influencer. A sponsor is a small business, big brand or even an individual that is prepared to pay you to promote their content or product. It may involve a social media shout-out, wearing a piece of jewellery in an Instagram live post or even writing articles to post on your blog.

There are many ways to work with brands online and earn money online. How to find great sponsors and which ones you should support is a little more tricky but it’s much easier than you may think.

You can earn money online, how bloggers do it! Working with brands online or using a platform like Get Blogged. It is an excellent way to earn money online as a growing small business. However, you must have established your brand identity first even if it’s personal branding.

Knowing who you are at your core, which morals your business will hold and how you will proceed will really help you decide which jobs you want to work on.

So, how do you choose the sponsors to work with? Answer these questions!

Do You Believe in the Brand and their Message?

The most important thing to think about is whether your values align with their values and the message. Check them out on social media and see what they share regularly. Of course, my own values and morals apply to my business. So I will not work with any unethical companies, those who support messages I don’t agree with.

Earn money online, how to figure out your brand morals
Example of a great coffee company who wears their heart on their sleeve.

For example, if I were a pet blogger, there’s no way I would work with a company that sold electric shock collars because I personally think they’re cruel. Once you know what you stand for, finding appropriate brands and paid blogging jobs becomes much easier.

Ideally, you should pick something that you actually use or will use. The best tip I can give you is to always consider your audience. If you feel like the brand’s message is something that would resonate with your readers, then let the brand know that in your pitch.

Earn money online, how to find paid blogging opportunities

Is it Worthwhile?

What’s in it for you? Due to the size and age of my brand, I can get away with not working in exchange for gifts.  The mistake a lot of new influencers will make is to jump at the first opportunity they are offered. Don’t do that. Never ever be afraid to say

“Sure, I would love to work with you on this, can I ask you what the budget is for this particular campaign”.

Should Be Said By You In Reponse To Collaborations With Other Businesses

That way, you ensure you are being compensated for your time.

Influencers never seem to value their time. Set rates and don’t just take a job that pays $20 for the sake of it. Some of those jobs can take hours to do and you end up being paid maybe $4 an hour. Not worth it.

Finally, in this guide to earn money online, how to choose sponsors and be a better influencer

These tips are an excellent way to get you started writing sponsored posts for your websites, or simply finding brands to partner with.

6 Simple Art Ideas (Under $20) That You’ll Actually Want to Hang

Simple DIY art ideas like these will always be my fave!

DIY artwork stacked against the wall in varying neutral colors

DIY art is literally one of my absolute favorite things to share here (and make). And today, I’m sharing six easy art ideas you can create at home that you’ll actually want to hang.

But the best part about all of this art is that every wall art idea here takes less than an hour to make AND each one costs less than $20!

To be even more specific… two of the ideas in this post take less than 5 minutes each to make and actually half of these art projects are under $7! Click through to see them all and let me know which one is your fave.

Blue abstract artwork leaning against the wall on a desk with books

DIY Art Idea #1: Canvas Scraps Collage

I always keep leftover canvas and other fabric scraps from projects to reuse for the next one. So, if you already have the canvas (or fabric) scraps for this one and some glue OR no-sew tape and an iron, you’re all set.

BUT if you need to purchase everything for this (minus the iron), you’d still come in under $10. I think the exact number is $7 if you want to get specific.

To make your own canvas art like this one, first determine what size frame the finished piece will be going in. This will determine the size you need to make.

My frame is 16×20, but also has a mat, which shrinks the size I’ll need to make, down to 11×14. Which means, my background canvas piece will need to be slightly larger than 11×14 to fit properly behind the mat in the frame.

I painted my background canvas, so there would be a contract between that and the raw canvas scraps on top, but that is completely optional. Once I cut out a few shapes and created a collage design that I liked, I attached each piece to the background with no-sew tape and an iron.

Or you can use fabric glue instead, but be careful not to let it soak through the material, creating a visible glue line. You could also sew the pieces together if that’s a better option for you. Lots of choices for this one.

Once finished, pop the completed piece into a frame and it’s ready to hang. *Add a hard backing before inserting into the frame if needed.

Don’t feel like framing this one? You can hang it as is, like I did with the piece that I’ve had hanging in my living room behind the ficus audrey. That’s also a DIY art pieces I made, but with that one, the pieces were sewn down with a sewing machine.

Using the inside cover of a book jacket as artwork, from the book Abode.

DIY Art Idea #2: Hidden Gem Book Jacket Art

This is an under 5 minute DIY art idea! If you buy the book Abode, and take the book jacket off and flip it over, you have a piece of art that you can frame! No creating required. And it’s such a cool piece to have framed.

Honestly, I’m not sure if this was the intention when the inside book jacket was designed, but when I accidentally discovered it one day, I was so excited. The book is one of my favorites. It’s authored by the two founders of General Store – one of whom is artist Serena Mitnik-Miller, and I really love her work.

So, if you don’t have the budget for one of Serena’s originals or even a print, this is great alternative that still supports the artist.

Pink artwork that says SUPER DUPER leaning against the wall on a desk

DIY Art Idea #3: Super Duper Paint on Paper

Anything can turned into a piece of DIY art with a simple phrase and a little paint. That’s what happened with this Super Duper painting. It was made years ago (back when I had my very first studio space, but I never shared it here, even though I’ve been asked about it many times – whenever it pops up in a photo on my feed.

This DIY art idea feel pretty self explanatory. Just grab a paint brush, some paint, and a big piece of paper. They have large size colorful art paper, like the pink one I used, at tons of art supply stores…and some craft stores too. And if this type of lettering isn’t your style, take a look at my DIY lettering art project for more inspo, with more of a calligraphy vibe.

I had the finished piece floated and framed over at Framebridge to make it look a little more special.

Mini weaving framed and held up in front of other artwork

DIY Art Idea #4: Mini Mounted Weaving

Want to make something a little outside of the typical 2D box when it comes to art? Try making a tiny weaving – you can use my DIY weaving loom (the small lap weaving loom version) to make it.

*If you have to also make the loom, this one will go over $20 – since the loom cost is about twenty bucks on it’s own. But the cost of yarn and a wood rod for this would be under $10, so you wouldn’t be going too far over budget on this, even with making the loom.

And then once it’s done, add a little stick or rod top the top and mount the whole thing onto a piece of mat board and frame. You can attach the rod to the mat board with heavy duty glue or stitch through the mat board, attaching the top rod that way instead.

Using oil pastels to create an abstract, linear piece of art

DIY Art Idea #5: Doodle with Oil Pastels

This next idea also involves canvas. I like canvas for this better than paper because it creates more texture and overall is a more unique look when it’s finished. That said, if you want to use paper instead, go for it!

All I did was grab a handful of oil pastels, like any of these (but these are my absolute fave), in four colors that worked together nicely. Then, I created grid lines that eventually turned into more of a plaid pattern and colored in some of the squares for a more linear design (since I’m not a big plaid fan).

Once finished, spray a coat of sealant over the top of it, if possible. If the completed piece is being framed with glass or plexiglass on top, you can skip the sealant.

Mustard yellow abstract artwork and modern, linear artwork leaning against wall in office

DIY Art Idea #6: Cool Textiles

Here’s another under 5 minute art idea.

I’ve shared something similar in the past, but didn’t want to leave this idea out because it’s so easy! All you need is a cool textile to frame. I used a napkin, but tea towels, small blankets, bandanas, and handkerchiefs would also be cool options.

The one I framed up is a block printed napkin from Kesslyr Dean and I love the mustard color and the simple shapes.

To frame a similar textile, you just iron it to make sure it’s wrinkle-free. And then attach it to a hard backing (you can use the backing that comes with your picture frame). You either tape it all the way around or glue it, for a more permanent option. Then, pop it into the frame and it’s ready to go.

Mine may look a little wrinkly in the photo, but that’s because I removed the plexiglass from the frame to avoid the glare when photographing. The glass or plexiglass in your frame should really help to keep your textile smooth when framing.

Window Decorations; How To Choose The Best For Your New Craft Room

There are various types of window decorations that you can choose from for your craft room. Please understand that I know we are talking about Window Treatments, but not everyone is aware of that term. That’s why we will be referring to window treatments as decorations also.

We want your craft room to boost your overall mood, as well as encouraging creativity! In today’s article, we shall be going through the window decorations options that you have as a crafter. That way we can ensure that you are well equipped to make the right changes in your room.

Window Decorations; How To Choose The Best For Your New Craft Room

The Three Types Of  Window Decorations

Please note that this page may contain affiliate links

All types of window decorations generally fall into any of the following three categories:

  • Hard window treatments; These are usually made of hard materials such as vinyl or wood. They include shades, shutters, and blinds.
  • Soft window treatments; The most common items in this category include sheers, drapes, curtains and various shades, such as roman shades. These are all items that are made of soft materials.
  • Layered window decorations; This category comprises types of window decorations that are made of a combination of both hard and soft window treatment materials.

Which material is best suited for your crafts room? Let’s find out.

What are the best types of hard window decorations in the market?

Hard window decorations are utilized for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Better control of the amount of light that enters your room.
  • More privacy as you go about your day-to-day activities
  • Increasing security.
  • Protection against damage by the harsh weather.
  • Enhancing the aesthetics of your room.

Clarke and Clarke Rosetta Curtains
Clarke and Clarke Rosetta Curtains (no longer available)

Woven wood shades will do a great job;

and more so if you are trying to bring in a touch of nature. Even with windows being a focal point of your room, you will be delighted to know that woven wood shades blend in the other types of décor quite well. This means that your new window treatment will not stand out oddly. You should, however, purchase one that does not reveal the operating mechanisms.

Another excellent type of hard window decorations is pleated blinds.

They are usually made from pleated material which you can pull up to sit right at the top of your window. These offer excellent light control and are quite easy to operate.

Which are the best types of soft window decorations?

Soft window decorations are used by those who would like to bring a touch of aesthetic to their living space. Most of the soft materials that are used in this category usually present very impressive designs and shades of color that work to your advantage in terms of making your room appear more welcoming or lively. Creating a suitable work environment as a crafter is largely about this, as already highlighted.

Roman shades

have been a firm favourite for many homeowners, owing to the qualities that they present. These soft window decorations usually provide sufficient privacy and light control, and they also play an important role in the insulation of a room.  You can opt to have your roman shades made from wood, fabric, or materials like bamboo.

Roller shades are another great type of soft window treatment.

You may have come across them under the name roll-up shades, or even roller blinds. These are a proven to be an easy way of adding colour, style as well as texture to a room.

Curtains;

Also known as drapes. They will also help you achieve a casual, stylish or even sophisticated look. With a rod on which the curtains can be drawn across, you are good to go.

All that is left is to choose the type of curtain fabric that meets your desired preference or taste, based on factors such as:

  • Clean-ability
  • Oil and dust retention
  •  Durability
  •  Fire resistance
  •  Noise absorption
  •  Ultraviolet light deterioration.

If you are looking for ways to give your craft room a personalized look, then you can have a look at a fabric shop online, and order the material that will serve you best.

Shabby Chic Layered Curtains

Which are the best types of layered window decorations on the market?

Layered window decorations;

have been a top preference for traditional homeowners and by those looking for a way to create some uniqueness in the areas close to the windows in their dining rooms and living rooms. The best thing about going the layered window treatment way is that there are no limitations, and you can work with the materials that impress you.

Plantation shutters;

just to give the room a look grander. This can apply more so in the case where the colour of the plantain shutters is similar to that of the walls. With the introduction of curtains, you will have given the room a unique touch of colour that will create all the difference. This is an approach that those who are reselling their homes use to increase their value.

Woven wood shades;

The woven shades present a pop of unique texture to any neutral space. A neutral craft room would, therefore, benefit from the inclusion of a woven wood shade of any design. The curtains will offer extra light control and a touch of softness that will add to the beautification of your room.

Conclusion

There is a wide variety of materials that you can use as a crafter to give your windows just the transformation that they deserve. Regardless of whether you decide to bring in a touch of nature or to maintain a modern design, you will enjoy the changes that you make. Which window types of window decorations do you prefer, and which one will you purchase?

Personal Branding; 5 Essential Elements You CANNOT Ignore

Your personal branding is going to be at the core of your marketing. Whether you’re marketing yourself for a new job or you’re developing a brand to become an influencer. Your branding is essentially the central theme of your site, social media, products and services.

Personal Branding; 5 Essential Elements You CANNOT Ignore

However, I do feel I need to be clear. Personal branding is not just your logo or your business name. To illicit any kind of trust, your brand needs to be crystal clear. It should be attractive, you should be excited by it and it needs to be powerful.

Please note that this page may contain affiliate links

Your brand should be powerful enough to illicit action, build trust and attract customers. Seems like a tall order huh?

Once you’re crystal clear on how your brand and business should be, you gain a tangible way of talking to people about what you do. It makes it almost effortless and it’s easy to see how that can carry on into your marketing.

What is Personal Branding?

Personal branding means that you’re turning yourself into the face of your brand. This can mean either that your business revolves around you and your site is also your name. However, it could just mean that like me, your face (and maybe the cat) is central to your brand. You’re featured on the sidebar and you’re the face on your social media channels.

With a personal brand, you’ll also be able to easily become an influencer of some sort. That means you can get paid by brands to create sponsored content. Basically, it’s blogging. It’s what blogging has always been, at least since I started in 2007. It has just evolved and it got a new name.

How Much Does An Influencer Get Paid?

It’s common for an influencer on Instagram to get paid  $1,000 for every 200,000 followers they have. If you have 1M followers, you can get paid $5,000 for something that takes literally five minutes.

Those are pretty good hourly rates but I beg of you, don’t become one of those influencers who decides to show their butt in a bikini and then tries to tie that to a serious message about the environment. It’s so gross.

When you’re creating your brand you are creating a memorable marketing message that will inspire people to take action instead of wanting to swear at you.

Use the Canva brand kit to ensure your branding is on point every time

How To Figure Out The Core Of Your Brand

>> Use this template on Canva

Your brand is the core of your business

You want your business to connect with people. Making a connection can only really come when you are sure of what you stand for, that you have a moral compass that is fully functioning. What feelings or emotions does your business inspire in you? Do you know what emotions you want to inspire in your potential customers? Remember, people don’t buy products, they buy stories.

Presentation Is Everything

Remember to always be consistent. Think about how you present yourself. It’s not only how you appear on your website but when people see you, email you or on twitter. It must match. Is your marketing saying what you want it to? Does it align with your values? Is it truly crystal clear what you do?

You should work on developing an elevator pitch and a great way to do that is with this template:

“I am ___ and I help ____ by ____ “

Put Yourself In Your Customers Shoes

Think like your ideal customer. A great exercise is to try and truly connect with your ideal reader by fleshing out a character. Try to get inside their head and see your products or services from their point of view, I write a mock journal entry and try to figure out what would be troubling them and what do they want the most.

How do they experience what you do, and how does it make them feel?

What are your best abilities, do you know your greatest strengths? Choose an unbiased person, who knows you well, to help you decide what your top attributes are; your brand should be based around your unique strengths and abilities.

Since we’re stuck at home right now, there are ways you can improve the time management strategies to ensure success. It doesn’t matter what your chosen field is, this is a smart way to manage your time to be effective.

When it comes to budgeting your time well, you have to be proactive in planning out your day and setting long-term goals to drive your daily work. But it can be all too easy to make some of these common costly mistakes:

8 Time Management Strategies To Implement Immediately

First Of The Time Management Strategies; Get A Vision

Please note that this page may contain affiliate links

To find success and reach your personal and/or professional goals, it is vital to have a vision. You need to be able to see how things are now, compared to how you foresee them to be.

Start Early

Time management strategies - start early

So many successful people report getting up at the crack of dawn and starting the day as soon as possible. This helps you to feel less rushed throughout the day and gives you plenty of time to get work done productively.

Eliminate Distractions

People are easily distracted. This can be one of the most problematic time management mistakes you can make. Keep your short-term and long-term goals in mind at all times. So, schedule time for yourself to do fun things outside of work. It will mean you aren’t as easily distracted by other activities.

Time management strategies - set goals and targets

Fourth Of The Time Management Strategies; Set Goals And Targets

The only way to work towards success is to know exactly what that looks like for you. You will need to set goals for yourself for every step of the way. From daily goals to end-of-year targets. This is a guaranteed way of keeping you on track by having some idea of what you are working towards.

Time management strategies - keep lists

Ensure You Write A To-Do List

This is always a good way to give yourself a clear outline of what you need to get done. It will also hold you accountable to your responsibilities.

Writing a to-do list also acts as a reminder as you go along of what you have already achieved and what you still need to do. This is an effective habit to get yourself into: make this process into a habit to really motivate yourself and keep track of your progress.

If you’re trying to focus at work, use a word counter tool to help you eliminate distractions.

Seventh Of The Time Management Strategies; You Must Rest

Time management strategies - rest

The issue of balancing work and rest is always going to be subjective.  You are going to have to judge this for yourself and work out what is most effective for you with regard to how much time you spend working in a day. But remember, rest is just as important in helping you reach your goals as working is!

Don’t Strive For Perfection

Seeking perfection is completely unrealistic and will only add stress to your life. Instead, focus on trying to do the best you can, given the circumstances and resources at your disposal. You don’t have to be fully prepared for everything.

You can learn as you go and grow from your mistakes and experiences. While planning strategies for effective time management is, of course, important, you also need to be able to take action and seize opportunities as they come, even if you feel unprepared.

Reviewing Your Time Management Strategies

Just because you have laid out a time management strategy you believe will be effective and productive doesn’t mean it will necessarily be effective. This is why it is vital to regularly review your current time management practices, so you can remain on track to reach your goals and work in the most constructive and efficient way possible.

Finally, Your Time Management Strategies Could Make Or Break Your Success

While these are just some of the most common mistakes you can make when it comes to time management strategies, there are so many more. Try to avoid these pitfalls and, at the end of the day, focus on trying to remain flexible to change your methods to find what is right for you to get things done.

Paper comes in so many different textures. The texture on paper is known as its ‘tooth’. Rougher paper comes with a lot of texture so it can hold a lot of color when burnishing (see yesterday’s post). Smoother textured paper is perfect for blending.

Since the bundles above are all printable at home, you have a choice to make.

Will you use colouring pencils or will you use watercolour pencils?

You can print any of the above bundles on watercolour paper if you’ve got a limited budget. I say that, because if you’re on a limited budget, then it’s unlikely you will be able to afford the best pencils. The best pencils are these. They’re expensive because they hold a lot of pigment and the cheaper versions simply don’t. That’s why you may wish to use watercolour pencils or paints; it works out a little cheaper for now.

Best Coloured Pencils

Prismacolor pencils have a soft lead that goes on reeeeal smooth, it’s VERY satisfying. When built up in layers they produce an almost paint-like appearance and really look amazing.

Beware Of The Wax Bloom;

‘Wax bloom’ is simply a build-up of wax on the surface of your paper. If you’ve ever used coloured pencils before, you probably won’t even be familiar with it unless you were paying attention. Wax from your pencil can rise to the surface of your finished artwork and create a film-like effect that dulls your artwork.

How To Deal With Wax Bloom

Spray a workable fixative like this over the surface after you have finished your colouring page may help. Certain brands of fixatives may alter the colours of a finished piece, so it’s best to try this on a practice page. You can use a few pencils to create colours on a blank page and test the fixative, just ensure it’s the same type of paper.

Another method is to wait about 7 days after you’ve completed your piece. If you see the wax buildup, grab some soft tissue (the gentle stuff for noses), cotton buds or cotton balls, and very gently rub the surface to remove the wax. Imagine you’re removing a hair from a house of cards. Caaareffuuuuullll.

Top Tip:

Keep a large soft brush handy for brushing away unwanted scraps from your drawings. Artists use a number of things to do this but I find a fan makeup brush or paintbrush is the most delicate way to do it.

Best Colored Pencils To Use In Your Coloring Book For Adults:

If you’re in the UK, you can get Prismacolor sets right here.

Learning how to use colored pencils can be a great way to encourage even more creativity. So, let’s start to explore the new techniques you can use in your coloring books.

Color Pencil Techniques:

colored pencil art - hatching

1 Hatching:

Hatching is drawing closely spaced lines all parallel to each other. Feel free to play around when practising. You can vary the length of the lines, the angle of your pencils and spacing of the lines to see what effects it produces.

Colored pencil techniques - cross hatching examples

2 Cross-Hatching:

Your first layer will be hatching as described above, then add another layer going in the opposite direction.

colored pencil art techniques - scrambling

3 Scumbling:

Use a sharp pencil and create tight scribbled circles. Repeating these actions over and over is what provides the finished effect.

Color pencil art - brandishing

4 Burnishing:

Add layers and layers of smooth color using a little pressure until the “tooth” of the paper is no longer able to hold any more color. This then results in a smooth colorful surface. Don’t apply too much pressure; you might damage your nibs or paper or both. This technique works best when using a paper with a good amount of texture or “tooth”.

5 Shading:

You already know how to shade if you went to school. Use the side of your pencil and use back and forth sweeping motions to cover the desired area. Change the pressure on each part to create different effects.

Don’t Be Afraid To Experiment

Remember to experiment with various types of techniques to discover your favorite. Artists use a variety of tools for removing pigment or fixing mistakes, so experiment with erasers too. There are so many different types; kneaded erasers, plastic erasers, electric erasers, and even tape.

For softening hard edges or blending, white pencils work great. Simply add a layer over the top. The trick is to layer the color so that all of the little bumps in the pages are full of colored pencils.

Try to avoid dropping your pencils EVER. It breaks the nibs. Even rolling off a table and onto the floor; treat them with care. Also, avoid electric pencil sharpeners as they’re a little too rough. Use artist sandpaper blocks to keep them sharp without wasting any of the pencil itself.

Never be afraid to try different things with your colored pencil art and enjoy!

Sewing Table; Everything You Must Know Before You Invest In A Table

When it comes to buying a sewing table, there are things that you’re going to need that you won’t even realise just yet. There are so many types of accessories, ways to store said accessories and additional machine storage. Knowing exactly what to look for is half the battle. So, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered in this guide.

After you review this, you’ll be armed with all of the necessary information you need to make a firm decision. So let’s get started.

The Ultimate Sewing Table Guide + Sewing Machine Table Options

Please note that this page may contain affiliate links

Transform the way you sew and be much more productive with the right storage and sewing machine table.

Sewing Table Essentials To Consider:

How Much Space Is Available?

It doesn’t matter if you sew in your dining room or the corner of a bedroom. Ultimately, you don’t want to buy a sewing machine table that will take over the entire room, but it is important that you get a table big enough for your machine, accessories and space to move your fabric.

How Big Should A Cutting Table Be?

Ideally, your cutting table should be approximately three feet wide, four feet high and at least six feet long. You should also have easy access to your supplies, which is what I will repeat and repeat and repeat. It’s essential. Don’t just buy a bare bones table; like a pasting table that painters and decorators use. You need easy access storage as the tabletop will be for your fabric. If you don’t have a lot of storage space, you can go up the walls and store threads or bobbins.

How Tall Does Your Sewing Table Need To Be?

The Dreambox Craft cabinet has a desk that can be adjusted to different heights and it has an additional Sew Station that attaches with a recessed table. Choose whatever will be the most comfortable for you.

Is There Space For Additional Machines Or Accessories?

Do you even need that type of space? If you love to sew, you may end up purchasing overlocker machines or even embroidery machines. You will need some form of built-in storage so you have easy access to the sewing tools that you use frequently.

When I moved house and had to get rid of the desk that attached to my Kallax unit, my crafting pretty much stopped. The supplies went in the large unit and it turned into a black hole. It was a pain in the butt getting supplies out because I was exhausted before I even started, so I stopped.

That’s how important built-in storage is.

What Color Of Sewing Machine Table Should You Buy?

Keeping the colour scheme of your current sewing space in mind, you can either choose to match with your current furniture or with complimentary-colours. There are some stunning pastel shades available with some sewing machine table brands that I adore! Alternatively, the Dreambox comes in white, shaker grey and chestnut brown.

What Type Of Surface Would Your Ideal Sewing Table Have?

Truthfully, it doesn’t really matter whether your tabletop has a painted finish, includes grooves or has a laminate surface. When sewing, you shouldn’t experience many stains, which would be the main concern when it comes to protecting tabletops. It’s merely a matter of preference.

Is It Strong Enough To Hold Heavy Sewing Machines?

I’m not shy about sharing how much I love the quality and sturdiness of the Dreambox. So you can guarantee SewStation is at a similar standard.

Right now you can save $100 off your order by using code HHMUK100 AND get a $50 Etsy Gift Card to stock up on supplies or decorate your space.
