How To Make A Superhero Mask + 1 Superb Printable Template

Are you ready to teach your kids how to make a superhero mask?! I’ve created these templates in association with Belling,  helping families create tasty, nutritious meals since 1912.

Belling have been kind enough to develop this campaign to help you keep your kids entertained during the holiday period. You can print out cape templates for the kids to colour and even grab a recipe book jam-packed full of Superhero recipes!

Because Superheroes are often seen eating less-than-nutritious meals on-screen, Belling has created some healthy alternatives for your little heroes to stay healthy.

How To Make A Superhero Mask + 1 Printable Template

When it comes to anything related to me, it has to be pastel or have the ability to fit into my colour palette.

It’s how I decorate, dress and it’s definitely a way of life. So, of course, I had to get girly on my Superhero masks. This is where we make girls the heroes.

Pro Tip: Use all of the resources from this post to host a superhero party with your kids. You could make superhero recipes, design capes and make some pretty fabulous masks.

Supplies Needed To Make A Superhero Mask:

How To Make A Superhero Mask:

How To Make A Superhero Mask - using the Slice precision blade

Step 1: Print your mask template on white cardstock and use scissors to cut out the shapes. You will then need to use the Slice precision blade cutter to remove the eyes.

How To Make A Superhero Mask - Slice ceramic blade knife

This was my first time using that craft knife and I found it much easier to use than standard x-acto blades!

Step 2: Gather the fabric you will use for your mask and use the disappearing marker that quilter’s use to mark out the shapes on the fabric.

If you are using felt that isn’t super stiff, you will need to either add packing tape to the back and trace the shapes onto the tape to cut Or something called Fusible Interfacing. Otherwise, you’ll have a floppy, fluffy, useless mask.

How To Make A Superhero Mask Shapes 1

I cut out lots of different shapes in different materials so I could swap any and just piece the masks together.

Step 3: When you have pieced your masks together, use Aleene’s tacky glue to attach and allow ample time to dry.

How To Make A Superhero Mask - elastic

Step 4: When the masks are drying, you can stretch the elastic around your kids heads to see how long it should be.

Cut the appropriate length and make sure that it isn’t too taught. You must measure from temple to temple, with a little stretch that will be comfortable on a head and won’t cut the ears or dig in.

When you are happy with the length of elastic, and your masks are dry, staple the elastic to the mid-section on each side.

Ta Da!

Belling makes everyday family life easier, from superhero capes to beautiful kitchen appliances. Every summer they host a marvellous event to the keep the kids busy when at home and this year is lots of fun!

More so, there had been many supports that gives us the ease to deviate ourselves from the trauma or the past that butts in when we all needed peace of time.

We have these positive distractions such as finding new hobbies like baking, binge-watching your favorite series on Netflix, or attending a music lesson which since music is recognized as a highly recommended therapy.

Mental Health Affects Physical Health

Physical and mental wellbeing are strongly related and it is evident that stress contributes to cardiac and vascular diseases.

When we rely just on physical wellbeing, we are not balanced people.

A toxic job climate is one of the main reasons why workplace mental health problems are dramatic.

Many of the reasons that contribute to mental health issues include ineffective communications and management rehearsals, insufficient health and safety procedures, minimal or incomplete staff resources, and uninviting workplace, restrictive operating hours, limited to no staff involvement in decision-making, ambiguous responsibilities, vague corporate priorities, etc.

The list will continue; the employees will be given priority to recognize and cope with all of these.

Mental Illness Causes People to Miss Work

People with mental illnesses can question or feel less optimistic about their abilities. An individual might be struggling to focus, understand, and make decisions. Symptoms of a psychiatric disorder will fuel much greater feelings.

Anyone who can’t focus, for instance, may also feel they can’t do their task too well and worry about being kicked out from their job. Whether these shifts influence job efficiency is clear to see.

If these problems are too fueled and mishandled, some would take the last resort of missing work rather than deal with another batch of problems.

Why Is Mental Health Important? It Can Put a Strain on Your Relationships

Our mental wellbeing has an impact on how we deal with life. Lack of care contributes to depression and frustration, hopelessness, feeling bad, distress and insecurity, terror, and unreliability.

Our relationships may be troubled. Our success may be decreasing in any condition like school or job. There could be separation and loneliness.

Even we can lose all interest in stuff that we once loved. Completing the task and managing the time might fall apart.

Concentrating can often become difficult for us, or one might have ruminations and emphasis on cleaning or arranging.

It can change our relationship to food. We may have highs and lows, and feelings of racing can transpire all too often.

The Easiest 5 Minute Black Bean Quesadillas (Vegetarian Recipe)

Black bean quesadillas that are honestly too good not to try!

Closeup image of cheese and black bean quesadillas, stacked on each other.

Black bean quesadillas are my go-to lunch (and sometimes dinner) when I’m in a hurry, but still want something filling. I mean, can you really beat a homemade, hot meal that takes less than 5 minutes and costs less than $5 a person?!

I’ve been making these vegetarian quesadillas for my family a lot lately, and they only take a handful of ingredients. Plus, it’s a nice (and tasty) way to clean out the pantry / fridge.

Wanna make your own black bean quesadillas? Click through for the limited ingredient recipe.

Where did quesadillas originate?

A little backstory on quesadillas, before we get started. Quesadillas originated in Mexico in the 16th century, which you may have already known. But did you know that while quesadillas always have some kind of tortilla (corn or flour) and filling, they don’t necessarily have to have cheese?! It’s true.

That said, the humble quesadillas I make do, in fact, have cheese. If you’re a cheese lover or maybe just really like black beans, this vegetarian quesadilla recipe will hit the spot.

Image of cheesy black bean quesadillas on a plate, stacked up together.

Ingredients for Black Bean Quesadillas

Makes one quesadilla (a tortilla folded over and cut into four pieces when finished). Two vegetarian quesadillas are pictured in the photos, stacked on top of each other.

  • 1 flour tortilla (7 inch or 12 inch)
  • 1/2 cup of shredded cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of minced onion (red or white is fine – whatever you have)
  • 1 teaspoon of minced jalapeño
  • 1/4 cup of black beans
  • sour cream (optional)
  • shredded lettuce (optional)
  • salsa (optional)

Sometimes when I’m making quesadillas, I’ll throw in some leftover turkey taco meat or the occasional leftover chicken. But for the most part, I use black beans as the protein for quesadillas because I usually have a can of them in the pantry. And they’re super affordable.

Plus, they’re vegetarian and I try to include more plant based options into meals whenever I can. This does have cheese though, so it’s not a vegan meal, just vegetarian quesadillas.

Black Bean Quesadillas (Vegetarian)

Here’s how I make my vegetarian black bean quesadillas. BTW- I make them one serving at a time – each quesadilla gets cut in half and then cut in half again when it’s finished. So, one serving will be 4 pieces.

Heat a medium to large size pan on medium high heat with a little bit of cooking spray (or a tiny bit of oil). I usually use an extra virgin olive oil cooking spray.

Then, toss your tortilla into the pan. I use these organic flour tortillas that need to be cooked on each side for 15-30 seconds.

If you’re using regular tortillas, put a tortilla in the pan and then flip it over after 10-15 seconds, just to heat it up on both sides and start getting a little bit of crispiness.

Working quickly, add your shredded cheese, directly onto one side of the tortilla in the pan. Only fill one side of the tortilla with cheese because eventually, you’ll be flipping the other half on top to make a half moon shape.

Next, add your black beans.

Then, add minced onion and jalapeño evenly on top of the cheese. Add a sprinkle more of shredded cheese if desired. I usually don’t do this.

Then, fold the empty half of the tortilla over all the toppings and flatten / push down the top a little bit with a spatula.

Once you can see the cheese starting to melt (1-2 minutes), flip the quesadilla over in the pan.

Remove from heat after another 1-2 minutes. Slice into 4 pieces and serve with sour cream, shredded lettuce, salsa, or even guacamole. Most of the time, I only have sour cream in the fridge. But when I’m feeling fancy, I’ll add a bunch of shredded lettuce and some guacamole to make it even more filling.

2 Expert Lead Art Classes For Adults You Will Love

Why are you seeking art classes for adults? Do you want to master a new skill or is it for mental health reasons? It can be both. That’s why I started learning art. In 2009 I was diagnosed with a mystery illness and became bedbound. I had about 2% energy on a daily basis but my brain was still working, and it was awful.

Then I realised there would be pockets in my day when I had a bit more energy, and I could draw and finger paint and collage from the comfort of my bed. So I got a wee caboodles case of supplies sent to me and took my very first online art class. I haven’t looked back. And it was the start of a very long journey taking art classes for adults over this past decade.

Color Meditation Class

Lisa Solomon, the teacher and author of A Field Guide to Color shares her unfettered enthusiasm for color in this daily practice series and it really shines through. I had so much fun because I got to experiment with color theory, which is one of my favourites.

All too often, I end up getting so excited about the beautiful color I’ve added to the page, I now have a huge collection of backgrounds.

You also get to play with patterns, and layering colors as you move through a variety of watercolor prompts. Be prepared to fully engage in color exploration and cultivate mindfulness.

After a month of observation, your perception of the tones and shades of your world will be attuned in a new way, which is the exact type of habit I need to develop right now.

You can sometimes skip prep time altogether when you use chalk paint. It almost always goes on completely smooth – even when there are cracks and dents. You’ll still have to buff away larger chips, but it requires a lot less effort than you’d usually encounter.

It’s also known to dry more quickly than other paints. As a result, it’s a lot easier to work with when compared to others.

Required Supplies for Chalk Paint Furniture Projects

Before you paint, it’s important to gather certain supplies. You may already have these on hand if you’ve painted other pieces. You should make sure you have soap, rags and sandpaper if you plan to clean and sand prior. A little dish soap and warm water can remove dirt and stains you shouldn’t paint over. You’ll also want to gather these materials:

You should also have a screwdriver and a baggie for any knobs or pulls that need removed. After you collect these supplies, it’s time to find an open, airy space to start. You can lay down a tarp outside if you don’t expect any bad weather.

Steps to Use Chalk Paint on Furniture

It’s time to begin your DIY chalk paint project. Lay down the tarp so you can place your furniture on top and set up your supplies. Once you remove any handles, it’s smart to tape the areas you don’t want to paint. You’ll then mix the paint and pour it into the container. Make sure to wet the brush with water.

Apply the paint with the wood’s grain so it’s not overly streaky. You may have to do more than one coat if you have a large desk or dresser to cover. Allow the first coat to dry for about 30 minutes before you apply another. You’ll then use a rag to add the wax once you’re satisfied with the paint job. You can reattach any handles when finished

Keep Your Finished Chalk Paint Furniture Piece Protected

If you don’t already clean your chalk paint furniture once a week, it’s time to start. It’s especially important to maintain your outdoor furniture, as it can endure extensive weather damage from rain and sun. The wax should ensure there’s a protective layer. That said, it’s still important to wipe down your furniture with a cleaner specific to its material.

How to Make Plush Toys for Kids

Plush toys and soft toys for kids are always a hit as gifts. But handmade plush toys?! Even better!

Soft toys and wooden blocks on the floor in a kids room.

Cute little soft toys are such great gifts for kids and/or expectant moms-to-be. And the fact that these are DIY-able AND super affordable to create, make them even better in my eyes. So, I thought I’d show you how to make your own.

I had a few of these made for Hayes before he was born and he still plays with them to this day. The rainbow toy is his favorite. Click through for the tutorial.

Custom plush toys like this are really quick sewing project and cost less than $10 to make.

Wanna make your own? Here’s how…

Materials Needed to Make Soft Toys

*Note before getting started / disclaimer

Because parts of these stuffed toys are sewn by hand and also include some kind of filling inside each item to make it soft, please use caution with these toys and monitor small children while they are in use.

I recommend using stuffing that is non-toxic like organic cotton (I used organic cotton roving scraps that I already had for this project), wool, or more fabric scraps.

Or as another option, you could use buckwheat hulls, flaxseed, or millet – which are also great natural options for stuffing. But again, would require monitoring to ensure the stitching doesn’t come undone.

Making stuffed toy and tracing cloud onto fabric.

How to Make Plush Toys

1. Create a template out of fabric or paper for the shape(s) you want to create – cloud, rainbow, teardrop, etc.

You can use my memory game shapes template as a guide for a few of those (just blow them up bigger when printing).

Then trace onto fabric and draw an additional line all the way around the shape that is 1/4 to 1/2 inch out from the original line. This will be your seam allowance.

2. Pin the two pieces of fabric (which will be your front and back pieces) together before cutting out along the seam allowance line.

Sewing a small cloud toy for a kid's room.

3. Sew along the shape lines but leave about a 3 inch (or more to make it easier) opening for the stuffing to go into. Be sure to back stitch on either side of the opening.

For cloud, raindrop, moon, or star shapes this is all you will need to do before moving onto the next step.

But if you’re making the rainbow shape, you will need to sew separate pieces for reach bow in the rainbow. In this case, three different ones.

4. Flip inside out. We used a pen and a skinny dowel rod to push everything through.

Adding stuffing to DIY soft toy project.

5. Fill with your choice of stuffing with the fill of your choice. Stuff the corners first and then fill out the middle.

We found that teasing the stuffing eliminates lumps in the pillow, if you’re using organic cotton, or something similar.

If you’re using loose filling (like millet, buckwheat, flaxseed, lavender), you won’t need to worry about this.

Finishing stitch lines for a soft toy rainbow.

6. Hand sew the opening, using an invisible stitch, and secure on the ends with double or triple knots. Make sure that the stitching is very secure to stand up to use from children.

And if creating the rainbow toy, you’ll also need to attach each of the bow pieces / arches together after the openings are stitched up.

You can again use an invisible stitch to attach each arch together to form the final rainbow. Be sure to tie off ends in double or tripe knots.

  • DIY leaf pillow – You can make a giant stuffed monstera leaf pillow (like three feet long or longer) OR a smaller, more normal sized leaf pillow. Both sizes are super cute and would use the same materials needed for this project. So, you wouldn’t need any additional supplies.
  • DIY star pillows – You can make giant star pillows or teeny tiny ones that are more like toys. Either way, super cute!
  • reversible pillow idea – This one isn’t specific to kid toys, but if you have some larger pieces of fabric laying around, this reversible pillow would be a good one to try. It’s really easy to make!

Instructions

how to make a fabric flower - supplies needed

To begin with, choose your favourite patterned fabrics (my favourite is Lecien) and gather your supplies.

how to make a fabric flower - cut out separate petals

Cut out the number of flowers and leaves needed as indicated on the templates in your chosen fabric.

how to make a fabric flower - creating the bendy layers

Choose two large flower petals, this will be the bottom layer of the flower.

Cut a long piece of wire and bend it into an almost triangle. Then take a piece of wire half the size of the previous piece and twist it at the bend of your almost triangle. See photo for an easy view.

how to make a fabric flower - add the applique and place the twisted wire in the center - glue

Apply the fabric bond (applique glue) all over the fabric flower petals and then put a fine wire (as you see image) between the fabric petals.

Repeat the same process for the leaves.

You don’t need to put a piece of wire between smaller flower petals. Just enough to fix two flower petals with glue.

Wait for a while for the petals and leaves to dry out or use a heat source, like a hairdryer. Be careful with a heat gun as they can get too hot. It shouldn’t take long to dry them as they’re quite small.

how to make a fabric flower - multiple flowers

Now it’s time to layer all of the flower petals and leaves together and secure them in place.

how to make a fabric flower - garland project

What you use for the centres of the flowers can be pretty much anything from loose beads to lonely buttons or even a small earring.  For this project I used buttons.

how to make a fabric flower - made into a napkin ring

You can make many different sizes of fabric flowers and use them in loads of projects!

So you know exactly how to make flowers for a frock dress AND how to make shabby chic flowers for headbands because they’re the same flowers.
