New typefaces are always being tested out with my readers to check which ones they resonate with the most.

Serif Fonts

Ok, I know these fonts aren’t exactly new and haven’t been very popular in recent years. Quite possibly due to the fact that certain serif fonts are much harder to read. Or, possibly due to the fact that people prefer a little more space with the cleaner, more modern Sans serif fonts or swiss style

But I’m happy to see the return! I think they look very sleek and convey a very traditional, trustworthy, minimalist business.

As time passes in digital marketing or graphic design, people’s tastes change. I’m talking about end-users. If your audience has stopped responding to your brand or branding, a simple switch in font could be the one thing that grabs them by the eyeballs and bring them back into the fold. Check out the free fonts on offer over at Font Bundles, they have commercial licenses included! Yes! Even the free ones.

What is a commercial license for a font?

I’ve been familiar with licensing for a very long time because I used to work for a stock photography company. Basically, if you use the font that results in a gain. Doesn’t matter if it’s personal, business, or for corporate financial gain.
Now, most fonts come with a free license and a commercial license costs extra, but not with FontBundles. It’s included in the price and commercial licenses can be up to $500 extra depending on the designer or design studio it was produced in.

Minimalist Font Trends

Trying to stand out somewhere like Pinterest has got many type designers playing with white space. Thanks to the evolution of photo editing and graphic design apps, people are able to play around with letterforms even more and produce some wonderful results.

I’ve noticed a huge influx of 8bit fonts, graphics and even gifs. Perfect for anything early ’90s themed.

Retro Fonts

From pixelation to big bold 70’s style fonts, we’re being gifted with an influx of retro style typefaces. In 2019, space-themed typefaces made a bit of come back last year and I can only see it growing in 2020.

These types of fonts are perfect for promoting your brand if you’re bold with a vintage touch. Despite retro fonts being quite limiting in terms of style, there are so many variations within the retro font world. So you are sure to find one to match your brand perfectly.

Go Vintage Chic

A Vintage look is a lot more sophisticated than retro in terms of style. Invoking the nostalgia can be a great way to create an emotional connection with your potential customers. Alternatively, someone can be really obsessed with anything ArtDeco. Rockabilly or vintage styled brands or people behind brands are ideal candidates for this type of font. Using a mixture of vintage fonts and rounded serifs is an excellent way to make your branding noticeable.

Rounded Sans Serifs

The trends for sans serifs continue to be cleaner and rounder than ever before. Now, some rounded serifs have the potential to look childish or even cartoonish but there’s a sweet spot.

These rounded serif fonts work brilliantly when it comes to creating digital planner files as they’re very easy to read. They’re also easy on ink so these types of fonts are definitely my preferred style. I also like to add a wide variety of fonts on my planner printables, it all depends on the styles chosen by my lovely Patrons!

Go Bold

We have less time than ever to grab someones’ attention as they scroll on their fonts, so go, Bold baby! After switching fonts for social media and rebranding, my font couldn’t really be read as people scrolled past. That was a very expensive mistake so ensure you squint and read your social headlines as thumbnails.

For bold fonts, something simple like the old industry standard; Helvetica. It’s simple and easy to read.

Handwriting Fonts

Design Your Own Font!

It’s easier than ever to design your own custom typeface. I remember doing this in 2010, making fonts out of my handwriting. You can use online tools or even phone apps that can do it but it takes quite a while to do in the beginning but people really respond to this type of customisation as it’s genuine. Or, it portrays how genuine your brand is.

Using Typography In Your Branding

The typography you use is one of the most important elements in your social media content or digital products. Fonts have to set a tone and convey a message somehow. As an example; seasonal fonts work really well for high click-throughs on social content.

To Conclude These Epic Font Trends for 2020!

When it comes to typography trends in 2020, you are sure to see all of these examples more and more within our popular culture. Whether it’s in magazines or Facebook ads, eye-catching fonts should always be noted. Especially if you are selling digital files online. If I see an ad that really catches my eye, I make a note of the style and attempt to use similar within my own branding as a test to check audience engagement.
